Lock Arm awnings are unquestionably the most popular External Blinds these days. One of the oldest concepts that arrived on Australian shores some 40 years ago, these awnings are commonly called “Storm Blinds”. These awnings provide protection for any window opening or living space against the harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun while allowing light to pass through.
These awnings are manufactured in widths up to a maximum of 3950mm. They are fitted on the exterior of a wall over a window or an opening, usually placed 150mm over each side of a reveal, and secured either to a brick or to a wooden substrate (not to the mortar in between). They can also be installed between vertical supports such as in gazebos or porches or even under an eave. If installed under an eave, a hood is occasionally fitted as the overhang will protect the awning.
